CARL FRANCIS THOMPSON

Carl Francis Thompson, 63, of Gloucester, died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011 at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital.

He served in the U.S. Air Force and retired from Langley as a Tactical Aircraft Maintenance Technician after 20 years. Carl was former owner of Carl’s Truck and Auto Repair at Gloucester Point. During his service in the Air Force he received the Air Force Achievement Medal; Distinguished-Presidential Unit Citation with one Oak Leaf Cluster; Longevity Service Award Ribbon with three Oak Leaf Clusters; NCO Professional Military Education Graduate Ribbon; Training Ribbon and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

He was a guy who enjoyed boating, fishing, and riding his motorcycle. Carl was an avid race car fan, raced at Langley Speed Way and for several years was the flagman. He was kindhearted, made friends with everyone he met, loved his family and worked hard.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Miles and Roberta Thompson, and brothers, Bill and Clint Thompson.

He is survived by his wife, Rosey Thompson; five children, Carl Thompson Jr., and wife Trish, Craig Thompson and wife Kellee, Kevin Casey, Bryan Casey and wife Kellie, Patricia Casey; sisters, Jill Horr and husband Richard, Carol Black and husband Phil; brothers, Ben Thompson, Bob Thompson; 11 grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Service conducted by the Rev. Ray Goude Jr. will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Gloucester Point Baptist Church. The family received friends Wednesday from 7-8:30 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point.

In Carl’s memory, contributions may be made to the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society, P.O. Box 385, Gloucester, Va. 23061.
