BERNICE C. DUNN

Bernice C. Dunn, 96, died Dec. 27, 2012 at the Fairfax Nursing Center, Fairfax, Va.

She was born Mary Bernice Carlton in King and Queen County, Va., a daughter of J. Wirtley and Josephine B. Carlton. She resided in Newport News from 1941-1979, and then in Gloucester County until 2004 when she made her home with her daughter in Fairfax.

She was a member of Newington Baptist Church, the Corr Bible Class, VIPs, Homemaker’s Club, and Bethel Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

Her husband of 56 years, Aubrey M. Dunn, died in 1993. Her son, James L. Dunn, died in February 2012.

Survivors included her daughter, Mary Audrey Tolcher of Fairfax; three sisters, Frances Ward of Urbanna, Martha Anne Royals of Moyock, N.C., and Carolyn Brown of Williamsburg; daughter-in-law, Mary Catherine Dunn of Richmond; two grandsons, Maurice A. Dunn of North Charleston, S.C., and Michael L. Dunn of Chesterfield; a great-granddaughter, Alexandra Dunn of Urbanna, and two great-grandsons, Zachary Dunn of Urbanna and Marshall Dunn of Chesterfield.
    The funeral service was conducted by the Rev. Michael R. Gray at Andrews Funeral Home, Gloucester, on Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at 11 a.m. The family received friends in the funeral home prior to the funeral service, beginning at 10 o’clock. Burial was in Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News at 3 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Newington Baptist Church, 6169 Main Street, Gloucester, Va. 23061, or to the Gloucester Historical Society, P.O. Box 1812, Gloucester, Va. 23061.
