Posted on Nov 14, 2012 - 12:29 PM Printer Friendly View

Benjamin Oliver Lindsay, 79, of Williamsburg, Va., passed away surrounded by his family on Nov. 7, 2012.

He was born on Dec. 27, 1932 in Gloucester, Va., the son of Lewis Lee and Catherine Oliver Lindsay, and had lived in Williamsburg since 1934. He was a graduate of Augusta Military Academy in Staunton, Va., and attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute. He worked as an Estimator for E. Caligary & Son Contractors and worked for Anheuser-Busch for 15 years, retiring in 1995.

Ben is survived by his wife of 56 years, Selma Spivey Lindsay; his children, Cynthia (David), Benjamin (Roxanne) and Scott and his wife Debbie. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Gil Owens Jr., (Regina), Kristen Owens, Tiffany (Andrew), Jason (Michelle), and great-grandchildren, Gil III, Hunter, Anthony, Heaven, Brinlee, Kahlan and Ada. He is also survived by his eldest sister, Ruby Jane Prowant, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Lewis Lindsay Jr., and his parents, Lewis and Catherine Lindsay.

Ben "Granddaddy" enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, hunting and was a lifelong member of Old Mill Hunt Club, net fishing, taking his boat "Miss Michelob" out at Queens Lake Marina; supporting William & Mary athletics, especially Tribe football and The Quarterback Club, and watching his great-grandsons wrestle for Gloucester Wrestling Association. He got his greatest enjoyment out of watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow and play.

A memorial service was held at Bucktrout Funeral Home on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 4 p.m.

Granddaddy’s final wish was that in lieu of flowers, please make monetary contributions to Gloucester Wrestling Association, 4464 Hickory Fork Road, Gloucester, Va. 23061. Online condolences may be made at www.bucktroutfuneralhome.net.
