AUDREY R. WARREN

Posted on May 04, 2011 - 02:30 PM Printer Friendly View

Audrey R. Warren, 79, of Gloucester, passed away at Hospice House, Williamsburg, on April 23, 2011, after a short bout with cancer.

Audrey was born Jan. 11, 1932 in Clinton, N.Y., and graduated from Albany State Teachers College (SUNY) in 1953.

As a Navy wife she lived all over, from Italy to Alaska, California to Texas, Rhode Island to Virginia, settling in Philomont, Loudoun County, Va., in 1966. She worked as an elementary and middle school teacher for 16 years, as well as raising four children on the farm at Philomont. She was an Elder in the St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Purcellville, Va.

Moving to Maine in 1988, Audrey continued her love of teaching, as a substitute teacher, and was active in the community church in Cushing, Maine. She also volunteered as an EMT and became the first director of a revitalized town library.

Moving back to Virginia in 2003, Audrey retired in the Ark area of Gloucester and spent this last year at the Chamberlin at Fort Monroe.

She leaves behind her husband, Richard; four children, Nancy Kane Warren of Williamsburg, Anne W. Monaghan of Gloucester, Susan Quinn of Columbia, S.C., and her son, Rick of Hamilton, Va.; five grandchildren, Erin Kane, Sancia Winslow, Lauren Posey, Marissa Alexander, and Patrick Kane, and one great-grandchild, Ava Winslow, with two more on the way. She was predeceased by two grandchildren, Alexander and Emily Kane.

Audrey had a remarkable affinity to all who met her, lovely blue eyes and a ready smile, loved by her family, her students, and friends. Her kindness and inspiration will always be remembered.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 7 at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Gloucester, as arranged by Andrews Funeral Home of Gloucester, 804-693-2366.

In Audrey’s memory, gifts may be made to the Hospice House of Williamsburg, 4445 Powhatan Parkway, Williamsburg, Va. 23188.
