Anne Mitchem Brooks, age 83, of Gwynn’s Island, passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2011.

She was an active member up until her illness of Gwynn’s Island Baptist Church, a past WMU President and taught missions to the children’s group. She enjoyed her children and grandchildren and spending time with all of her friends.

Anne was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Brooks; her parents, Carey and Alma Mitchem, and her brother, Stanley Mitchem. She is survived by two daughters, Jeannie Callis (Jimmy) of Gwynn and Katherine Hudgins (C.K.) of Mathews; grandchildren, Brian Callis (Marilyn Bess) of Deltaville, Karri Callis Murphy (Brian) of Foster, Christopher Hudgins and Adam Hudgins, both of Mathews, and Charles K. Hudgins Jr. of Jacksonville, N.C., and great-grandchildren, Presley Murphy, Katherine Murphy, Sterling Hudgins and Thurman Hudgins.

The family received friends on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Gwynn’s Island Baptist Church. Funeral services were conducted in the church on Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at 11 a.m. Interment followed in Gwynn’s Island Cemetery.
