ANGELA L. ERNST

Angela L. Ernst of Gloucester, passed away on Friday, Oct. 28, 2011.

Angie was born on Aug. 8, 1963 in Lehigh County, Allentown, Pa., and became a resident of Gloucester, Va., in 1983.

She is survived by her loving husband, Garold "Tony" Smith, and her two beloved dogs, Bear and Molly of Gloucester; mother-in-law, Alice Carney Smith; brother-in-law, Sam Smith and wife Peggy; sister-in-law, Joy Taylor; father and mother, Walter and Carol Ernst; brothers, Brian and companion Julie Weiss, Christopher and wife Christine, Matthew and wife Tracy, Joseph and companion Rhonda Jay, Zachary and companion Taren Weidaw; sisters, Tricia and husband Kyle Beidler, Katrina and companion Anthony Haas; nieces, Jessica and husband Robert Garza, Nicole Taylor, Olivia Ernst and Wendy Cumbie; nephews, Jason and wife Beth Smith, Kasey, William, James and Nicholas Ernst, Blake Beidler, Kyle and Conner Weiss, and Jason Smith and wife Beth.

She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Garold "Smitty" Smith, grandmother-in-law, Nancy Carney; maternal grandparents, Louis and Joyce Szilezy; paternal grandparents, Russell and Mamie Ernst, and sister, Tina Ernst.

Angie came to Gloucester in 1983, and graduated from Thomas Nelson Community College summa cum laude in 1984 with an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Data Processing.

Upon graduation, she worked for Chaney Business Machines (CBM) of York County and then Reams Computer Corporation of Newport News as a Computer Programmer where she met her future husband, Garold "Tony" Smith. They were married on Sept. 8, 1995 in Gloucester. Angie also worked as a Special Education Teacher’s assistant for Gloucester County Schools at Gloucester High and most recently was employed as a Senior Business Support Analyst with the York County School Board.

Angie’s passions were her husband and her dogs, family, friends and co-workers. She enjoyed gardening, NASCAR, ice hockey, Harleys, music, and giving to others.

Angie was a frequent supporter of veterans’ charities but liked motorcycle charity events, especially those by the Iron Skullz MC of Gloucester and the YCSD Relay for Life team. Angie loved Gwynn’s Island and with her husband, owns his grandmother’s house on the island. One of her proudest moments came when Tony’s late aunt Sunie Brown told her she was no longer a "come here," she was a "from here." Angie has gone to heaven and is enjoying an MGD and listening to a concert by the original members of Lynyrd Skynyrd.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011, from noon-2 p.m. at Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews, Va., followed by a funeral service at 2 o’clock with interment at Gwynn’s Island Cemetery, Grimstead, Va.
