ALLEN LINWOOD LUCY

Posted on Jan 16, 2013 - 01:05 PM Printer Friendly View

Allen Linwood Lucy, 95, died peacefully on Jan. 11, 2013 at Gloucester House in Gloucester, Va.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Pittman Lucy; his parents, Harry S. Lucy and Alice Martin Lucy; his brother, Harry S. Lucy Jr., and his sisters, Carroll Lucy Runge and Doris Lucy Crowder.

Mr. Lucy is survived by his son, Jon Allen Lucy and wife Dianne; his daughter, Diane Lucy Wrick and her husband, Varley; two grandchildren, Jon Brian Lucy and his wife Amy, and Karen Lucy McManus and her husband Jay; and four great-grandchildren, Tyler and Kaylee Lucy and Aden and Adrianne McManus. He is also survived by his wife’s sister, Frances Britt; her brother, Willis Pittman, and many cousins.

He was born Jan. 22, 1917 in Richmond, Va., where he attended John Marshall High School and Smithdeal-Massey Business College.

Mr. Lucy began his career with city and state courts in 1939, first holding the position of Deputy Clerk in the old Richmond Law and Equity Courts. In 1952, he was appointed Assistant Clerk of the Supreme Court of Virginia, then almost immediately the Court’s first Deputy Clerk. In November 1977, he was appointed Clerk of the state Supreme Court, holding this position until his retirement in 1984.

Mr. Lucy was very active in First Baptist Church of Richmond. Over many years he worked with youth programs and taught Sunday School, while also serving as a Deacon (ultimately Deacon Emeritus).

He was married to the love of his life, Mildred, for 66 years. He was a loving husband and father, being well known for his sense of humor, as well as his honesty and kindness with all. Mr. Lucy had a close and loving relationship with his entire family, especially enjoying family gatherings punctuated with laughter and sometimes "exaggerated" stories. One of his favorite pastimes was fishing with his family and friends on the Piankatank River. He will be greatly missed by all.

Members of Mr. Lucy’s family wish to extend thanks and appreciation to all of his special caregivers, to Heart Felt Massage Therapy, to Gloucester House, and to the Riverside Walter Reed Hospice, for giving Mr. Lucy such great care with his health, comfort, companionship, and quality of life.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at First Baptist Church chapel on Monday, Jan. 21, at 1 p.m. There will be a small reception afterward at the church.

In our father’s memory, please send donations to Riverside Walter Reed Hospice Fund, P.O. Box 1130, Gloucester, Va. 23061.

Arrangements by Hogg Funeral Home and Crematory, Gloucester Point.
