‘The Cross’

Faith Baptist Church, Bohannon, presented "The Cross" on Friday and Saturday evenings at a field near Dr. Ben Lennon’s dental office in Mathews. The presentation of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ has become an annual event for the church. Here, Roman centurions Scott Clawson, at left, and Grant Clawson, right, force Jesus (Daniel Marr) to carry his cross to Calvary. Photo by Charlie Koenig

Easter egg hunts

For many children, Easter means candy, and a number of Easter egg hunts were held in the two counties on Saturday to satisfy their candy cravings. At left, Gloucester’s Chick-fil-A held Easter egg hunts for three age groups, with one lucky person in each group winning a bicycle and helmet donated by Walmart. Shown with their haul of candy-filled eggs are Emily Wilton of Seaford, 10, and her cousin, Lucas Jenkins of Gloucester, 8. In photo at right, First Baptist Church, Mathews, held its Easter egg hunt at Port Fun, across Buckley Hall Road from the church. Among those gathering eggs were Tyshaun Jones, 4, and Myron Jones, 3, sons of Howard and Antrea Jones of Mathews. Photos by Bill Nachman

Sunrise service

A glowing sky preceded sunrise on Sunday, and lasted about three minutes. Barbara McGlohn of Bohannon, took this photograph at a community Easter sunrise service held at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science, Gloucester Point. Participating churches included Gloucester Point Baptist, Bethany United Methodist and Susanna Wesley United Methodist. Photo by Barbara McGlohn
