The Gazette-Journal’s "Hometown Treasures," continues this week with an exploration by staff members of art exhibits you may know about, and others that may come as a surprise.

These counties are rich in public museums, exhibits and archives open to all, and private collections available for viewing by appointment. The series started last week with a look at local museums.

Village Art Gallery

Three local artists, Gertrude Brown, Marjorie Buckland and Harriett Roane, opened the Village Art Gallery in the Morgan Building on Main Street, Gloucester, in March 2009, to give local artists a place to show their works.

Today, 23 artists exhibit at the gallery, which is open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Their works include paintings in many media, photography, woodwork, notecards, fairy houses, photography, original artwork and prints.

In addition, the gallery supports scholarship efforts for the Art League of Gloucester, selling raffle tickets and backing other fundraisers. For more information, call 693-4468.
