The Gloucester Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee endorsed more use of the T.C. Walker Educational Center during its Sept. 24 meeting.
Carol Steele, director of parks, recreation and tourism, said the committee instructed her to send a letter to the county’s supervisors and school board members, seeking possible use of portions of that building—the former T.C. Walker Elementary School—as a senior center. The county’s senior center, called the Gloucester Active Lifestyle Center, is currently located in a cramped facility on Main Street.
In addition, Steele said the committee instructed her to send a letter asking for additional use of the center for Community Education functions. She said dance and gymnastics programs are already scheduled there this fall.
On a separate matter, Steele said the committee endorsed sending a letter to the two county boards in support of a full-size gym, not the smaller proposed gym, for the new Page School site elsewhere on T.C. Walker Road.
