Friday was the deadline for candidates to file to be on the ballot of the Nov. 6 general election. This year, voters will cast their ballot for a number of state races and in Gloucester, a special election for sheriff.

Gloucester voter registrar Bobbi Morgan said two candidates have filed for the sheriff’s race, including current sheriff Darrell Warren. Warren, who served a chief deputy under former sheriff Steve Gentry took over the sheriff’s position when Gentry resigned earlier this year.

Warren is running as a Republican and will face off with Clarence Bowser, an independent.

Voters will also have an opportunity to choose the next candidate for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Jim Webb, who has decided not to run for reelection.

Candidates include former U.S. Senator and former Virginia Governor George Allen, a Republican from Henrico, and former Virginia Governor Tim Kaine, a Democrat from Richmond.

Allen, the incumbent, lost the Senate seat to Webb during the 2006 election.
