Gloucester Administrator Brenda Garton said an interim plan to cover the county’s codes compliance duties—a procedure in place since last summer—has found all participants "doing a very fine job."
However, Garton said she is not certain if the former codes compliance director position will be filled as the job was previously defined or if the position might be modified with new duties. The temporary arrangement is placing "a lot of burden" on several staff members, Garton said, and she doesn’t expect to leave the present codes compliance coverage as a permanent plan.
After former codes compliance director Ron Peaks resigned last summer, Garton announced that codes compliance duties would be filled in a multi-step fashion:
—Garton assumed the overall responsibility as the Director of Codes Compliance;
—Paul Koll, Gloucester’s building official, continues with those duties and handles Floodplain Ordinance matters;
