The Mathews County Planning Commission decided Tuesday night to recommend to the board of supervisors that the board hear a presentation by Donna Holt of the Virginia Campaign for Liberty.
Planning and zoning director John Shaw told the commission that a Mathews resident had asked that the commission invite Holt to speak before a joint meeting of the commission and the board of supervisors.
Commission chair Danette Machen questioned the purpose of such a talk, saying that she had heard Holt speak before about her opposition to comprehensive plans and didn’t see the need to revisit the issue until it’s time to revise the comprehensive plan.
"I don’t see a need to go back in time," said Machen. "The comprehensive plan was recommended and approved."
Other commission members agreed, saying that, while Holt had a right to speak before the commission and the board, her topic should be applicable to some current planning issue.
