The state Department of Motor Vehicles announced plans on Jan. 19 to open a new Gloucester Customer Service Center (CSC) at York River Crossing Shopping Center, Hayes.
The new facility will replace the current DMV office on Route 17 south of Gloucester Court House, according to DMV public relations and media manager Melanie Stokes.
"We are still in the early stages in planning the revamping of the office space," Stokes said, "so a specific opening date is unknown at this time. However, we anticipate opening of the doors sometime this summer."
DMV has signed a 10-year lease for space in the shopping center, Stokes said, and will occupy almost 4,000 square feet, which is nearly twice as large as the current facility.
The new office "affords customers excellent parking, road test routes and additional amenities, including public restrooms," Stokes said.
"DMV Commissioner Richard D. Holcomb is thrilled as we anticipate the economical impact and growth potential that our presence at York River Crossing will bring to the center and the community," she said.
