The Mathews County Board of Supervisors elected Janine Burns as its chair and Edwina Casey as vice chair during an organizational meeting last Thursday.
The board also decided that retiring county administrator Steve Whiteway will continue to serve as clerk until his replacement is appointed, and that his administrative assistant, Mary Horn, will continue to serve as deputy clerk.
The monthly meeting day will be the same—the fourth Tuesday—as will the every-other-month time schedule of 1 p.m. on odd-numbered months and 7 p.m. on even-numbered months. The one exception is December, when the meeting will be at 1 p.m. on Dec. 18. All meetings will be in the historic courthouse.
The board also made a minor change to its bylaws to allow the incoming chairman to preside over the organizational meeting in future years; raised the reimbursement rate for mileage to 50 cents a mile, noting that no board members have filed any mileage claims in the past, and made committee appointments.
