A two-lane bridge on Allmondsville Road (Route 662) in Gloucester reopened to traffic last Thursday after being closed for about a week.
The bridge over Fox Creek was closed after an annual inspection found a deteriorated beam. Repairs were completed last week, a little sooner than originally anticipated, said Kelly Hannon, a spokesman for the Virginia Department of Transportation.
A major change is that the bridge is now posted for a three-ton weigh limit. It was previously able to carry vehicles weighing up to 14 tons.
Message boards have been posted to provide advance notice of the new weight limit, Hannon said. VDOT recommends motorists use Ark Road (Route 606) and Cappahosic Road (Route 618) as a detour for vehicles exceeding the weight limit.
