Repairs are scheduled next week to the bridge over Poropotank Creek, located on Route 14 at the Gloucester/King and Queen County line. Motorists should expect delays and brief traffic stops next Monday through Friday, said Kelly Hannon, a spokesman for the Virginia Department of Transportation.
The repairs are scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. Monday and then start at 8 a.m. Tuesday-Friday. Repairs are slated to end at 4 p.m. each day.
Work will include milling the existing road surface, patching the concrete bridge deck, and placing a new asphalt overlay, Hannon said.
"This maintenance and paving project is different than a standard construction project, where there would be an award amount to a single contractor," Hannon said. "This project will be accomplished through a combination of state forces performing the patching work to the concrete bridge deck, and a hired equipment contractor performing the milling and paving work on the bridge and roadway approaches through a larger paving contract."
Hannon said the VDOT bridge engineer was not available Tuesday night to provide the project cost.
