American Legion posts in Gloucester and Mathews counties will commemorate Memorial Day with services on Sunday afternoon in the two counties. Both programs are free and open to the public.

Mathews Post 83 and its Auxiliary will hold its annual service at 2:30 p.m. at the post headquarters on Hookemfair Road in Hudgins. A guest speaker has not yet been announced.

Gloucester’s ceremony begins at 3 p.m. in front of the new courthouse. Air Force Chief Master Sergeant Tamara Olson will deliver the keynote address.

Olson received the Air Combat Command Outstanding Senior NCO of the Year award for 2009. That year, she was also the Outstanding Airman of the Year for Hampton’s Langley Air Force Base.
