The Mathews County Relay for Life, held at Mathews High School on Saturday, raised $36,098 for cancer research this year. Chairman Katie Dutton recognized the teams and corporate donors, and gave special recognition to Susan Cox’s team of 22 Thomas Hunter Middle School students who raised at least $100 each. The keynote speaker was Delphia Ferguson, who shared a message of hope and the power of prayer and positive thoughts. Above, Jane Kennedy, a cancer survivor who was diagnosed in 1998, carries the torch on the first lap of the relay. Below, luminaria spell out "HOPE."
