The Boys and Girls Club of Mathews will again take part in the Tour de Chesapeake, holding its sixth annual Poker Pedal event on Saturday.

All proceeds will be used to fund programs for teens at the club, which is part of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula.

Bikers registered for the TDC online and in person can participate in a five-card stud poker game for an extra $10 per entry. The registration table will be located at Thomas Hunter Middle School from 4-8 p.m. Friday. The shortened bike course of 12 miles is designed to make it an easy ride for those who want to participate in Poker Pedal fun without registering for the whole Tour de Chesapeake ride, a release stated.

The 12-mile route connects five stops: Thomas Hunter Middle School, the Mathews Visitors’ Center porch, Williams Wharf, Tatterson Greenhouses site at Port Haywood and Ambrose Disposal on Tabernacle Road. In addition to Friday night’s registration, participants can also pay for the five-card stud entry cards at any of the five stops on the day of the ride.

Participants are competing for two prizes: Best Hand will be awarded a $200 American Express gift card, and a $100 gift card will be awarded for Worst Hand. Winners will be announced at Thomas Hunter at 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Winners do not have to be present to win.
