The Route 17 improvement project at Gloucester Point is ahead of schedule, according to Marcie Parker, residency administrator for the Virginia Department of Transportation.
Parker told the Gloucester County Board of Supervisors during its meeting Tuesday night in the colonial courthouse that Phase I of the project is completed.
She said that Phase II is a few months ahead of schedule and should be completed by this coming spring, followed by Phase III being completed by next summer.
All traffic, she said, has been pushed to the newly formed northbound lanes so work crews can start constructing southbound lanes. VDOT crews continue with water and sewer line installation, Parker said.
Finally, she said over the next 30 days, crews will begin installing the permanent traffic signals, though they will not become operational until the project is finished.
