The Mathews Maritime Foundation premiered a new website at a meeting Monday at Mathews Memorial Library.
The website, developed by Marcia Bremer, director of the Coastal Inventory Program of the Center for Coastal Resources Management at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science, and Tami Rudnicky, a GIS analyst at the center, highlights heritage sites on the Mathews Maritime Heritage Trail.
The pilot project for the website is an interactive map and guide of the East River. Bremer showed the small group gathered for the premiere that the map displays numerous sites of interest and public access points along the East River and its tributaries, from the historic home "Eastbrook" at the northernmost end to Diggs Wharf at the southernmost. Because of the high resolution of the satellite photo image, the user can zoom in and see land features, rooftops, docks and boats.
