The Gloucester Library will hold two open houses in the coming weeks to showcase its many services to the community.

Adult program coordinator Ginny Snowden said that the first open house will be held from 10 a.m.-noon next Saturday, Nov. 30, at the Point branch library at York River Crossing Shopping Center, Hayes. Refreshments will be served and holiday craft activities are planned for all ages.

The second open house will be held from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, Dec. 7, at the main library in Main Street Center. That event will include refreshments, craft activities and music by Strings and Things. That open house will be held only hours before the annual Christmas parade in the village, Snowden said, and will provide an extra activity to enjoy there and a photo booth will be set up for families to capture memories of the day.

Gingerbread programs

Sissi Mise, tween/teen coordinator, said she is planning a gingerbread house contest for grades 6-8 from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, at the main library. All materials will be provided (e.g., gumdrops, candy canes, lollipops), she said, and participants will have 30 minutes to build a gingerbread house at the library.

The best house will win a prize, Mise said, and all entrants can take their houses home to eat and share with their friends and family.
