The Mathews County Treasurer and Commissioner of the Revenue shared information this week about the current and upcoming tax seasons.
Treasurer Wendy Stewart said bills for the second half of the 2013 real estate taxes and for the 2013 personal property taxes have been mailed. The treasurer’s office offers payment plans for both delinquent and current year real estate taxes, but only for current year personal property taxes, she said. The plan for personal property taxes has to be set up by the due date, Dec. 5.
Under Code of Virginia §15.2-105, if payments are made after the due date, penalty and interest will still be charged, said Stewart, but payment arrangements will allow the taxpayer to not feel the strain of paying the amount all at once.
Tax invoices may not include fees on delinquent accounts because of other collection actions, Stewart said. Additionally, she said that taxpayers may make prepayments to their accounts at any time during the year.
Commissioner of the Revenue Les Hall said his office will no longer be receiving state income tax forms from county residents. Instead, the forms will be mailed directly to the Commonwealth of Virginia.
