No more lane closures are anticipated for mechanical and electrical repairs now wrapping up on the George P. Coleman Memorial Bridge, said Jennifer Gwaltney, a spokesperson for the Virginia Department of Transportation.
"There is some final electrical-mechanical work to be done this week," Gwaltney said Monday. "The project is expected to be completed by the end of the week. No further lane closures should be necessary for this work."
Both southbound lanes were closed for two, 30-minute periods Sunday, Gwaltney said, and one southbound lane was closed from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. that day. Several other lane closures had been conducted there in recent months, also related to electrical/mechanical repairs for the swing span of the bridge, which carries Route 17 over the York River between Gloucester Point and Yorktown.
