The Gloucester County Health Department recently reported its fifth suspected rabies case for 2013.
Environmental health supervisor M.B. Sheppard Jr. said his department received notification that a man was bitten by a grey fox on July 1, while picking blueberries on his property in the Anchorage Lane area of Ware Neck.
The victim was bitten on the elbow and is receiving post-exposure treatment, Sheppard said.
"Residents are requested to avoid any animal which acts strangely or demonstrates passive or aggressive behavior," Sheppard said. "Medical attention should be sought immediately in case of exposure."
All pet owners are urged to keep their pets’ rabies vaccinations current, he said.
