Gloucester boards to discuss school funding

The Gloucester County Board of Supervisors and the Gloucester County School Board will discuss lump sum vs. categorical funding of the school system during a joint work session Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Gloucester Main Library Community Room.

Supervisors voted 5-2 last week to allow school board members to sit down to discuss the issue, which has proved to be controversial since it came to the fore in January 2008.

The vote to change the school’s funding method from lump sum to categorical in 2008 sparked uproar from many citizens, and eventually forced supervisors to change their decision.
