Yorktown’s 4th of July fireworks celebration is back on schedule.

County officials announced late last week that they have reconsidered their earlier decision not to support an Independence Day celebration.

York County public information officer Christie Powell said that county staff had discussed various alternatives since the National Park Service notified York County recently that it would not allow fireworks to be shot from Colonial National Historical Park or its fields used for parking in conjunction with the county’s July 4 festivities. But after a series of discussions between Park Service and York officials, the Park Service agreed to issue a special use permit to the county so the celebration can still be held, Powell said.

After revisiting its new risk assessment safety plan, CNHP public information officer James Perry said Tuesday, that Park Service officials realized that they could still cooperate with York County and modify use of the federal land.
