G.I. Festival raffle winner gives money back to Civic League
The winning ticket for the Gwynn’s Island Festival’s 50/50 raffle was a big surprise to festival organizers. The ticket that was drawn on July 4 was simply filled out "Gift to Gwynn’s Island Civic League."
Since approximately 1,900 tickets had been sold, that anonymous donation amounts to roughly $950. "This will go a long way toward meeting the organization’s needs," according to Gwynn’s Island Civic League president Carol Sharp.
"I want to thank this anonymous donor again and again," Sharp said. "The people of Mathews really know how to rally around a good civic cause."
The drawing was originally scheduled to take place at the conclusion of the June 26 event; however, because of a storm on the horizon, the Gwynn’s Island Festival was forced to shut down around 2 p.m. that day.
