Wetlands board to hold two hearings next week

The Gloucester County Wetlands Board will hold public hearings on two shoreline improvement applications during a meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, in the colonial courthouse.

Richard Pearce has applied to construct 55 feet of marsh toe stabilization and 150 feet of riprap revetment, said Linda Walthall, permit technician for the Environmental Division of the Gloucester Codes Compliance office. In addition, she said Pearce seeks removal of a failed bulkhead. The project is situated along Mill Creek at 9870 and 9879 Breezy Point Lane.

Daniel Mulville has applied to reactivate a previously approved project, Walthall said. The board approved his application Dec. 10, 2008, she said, but that approval lapsed June 10, 2010.

Mulville wants to remove an existing timber groin and construct a new 16’ long vinyl groin and to install 156 linear feet of riprap sill. Also, a public notice said Mulville seeks to place 107 cubic yards of material landward of the sill as beach nourishment and to support the planting of wetland vegetation. The project is situated along the Piankatank River at 11300 Piankatank Drive.

Following its meeting, the wetlands board will sit as the Gloucester County Chesapeake Bay Preservation and Erosion Commission. The commission will consider one request for a buffer modification.

Walthall said Adams Creek Marsh Club, Inc., has filed a buffer modification application to establish a shallow pond for waterfowl and general wildlife habitat. That project is located off Starvation Road.

Chairman Walter I. Priest III said interested persons are invited to attend the meetings and speak during the hearings. Copies of the applications are available for public review at the Gloucester Codes Compliance Office, located at Gloucester County Office Building #3 on Main Street.
