Wetlands board to consider four applications

The Mathews Wetlands Board, during its meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 7, in the historic courthouse on Court Street, will consider four applications for projects that have impacted or will impact wetlands and will hear a presentation on a restoration plan.

Brian Grizzard of Richmond, has requested an after-the-fact permit for a project in which he already replaced a previously-existing seawall and groin, and then added an observation deck at the end of the groin. The site is located along the Chesapeake Bay at 265 Saunders Lane.

Next door, at 267 Saunders Lane, property owner Nina Crofton of Richmond, has requested permission to construct a 60-linear-foot stone revetment.

Al Carpenter of 262 Ginney Point Lane is seeking a permit to construct two sills—one 30 linear feet and one 115 linear feet—along with a 71-linear-foot marsh toe and 50 linear feet of stone revetment at his property on the Piankatank River, while Alice C. Warlick of Susan, has applied for a permit to install 85 linear feet of stone revetment at her property at 361 Sloop Creek Road on Mobjack Bay.

Finally, the board will hear a presentation about a restoration plan being undertaken by Sea Farms. The business, located at Cricket Hill and owned by Ron Sopko, was found earlier this year to have violated environmental regulations by destroying 21,345 square feet of wetlands and 5,613 square feet of subaqueous bottom at the mouth of Lanes Creek in Milford Haven. The company was subsequently ordered to develop and execute plans to restore the site.
