Voter registration deadline approaching soon
With Election Day just around the corner, the deadline is fast approaching for voters to register to cast their ballots on Nov. 6.
The last day to register to vote or to make changes to your name or address in time for this year’s presidential election is Monday, Oct. 15. Absentee voting began this week and will continue to Saturday, Nov. 3, which will be the last day to vote absentee in person. October 30 is the last day an absentee ballot may be mailed from the registrar’s office.
In Gloucester and Mathews, voters who qualify to vote absentee may stop by the registrar’s office Mondays through Fridays from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. to vote absentee. To avoid lines, the Gloucester registrar’s office is offering the opportunity this year for registered voters to fill out an absentee ballot application online and mail, fax or e-mail it to the office.
There are about 20 applicable reasons a registered voter may be permitted to vote absentee, including being away as a student, traveling for business or vacation, and those who are working and commuting to/from home for 11 or more hours between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Election Day.
In addition to regular office hours, the registrar’s offices in Gloucester and Mathews will be open the two Saturdays prior to the election—Oct. 27 and Nov. 3—from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
