Combating shoreline erosion will be the topic of a meeting to be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 28, at Mathews Memorial Library.

The Virginia Institute of Marine Science and the Mathews County Department of Planning and Zoning are sponsoring the talk in an ongoing effort to let Mathews County’s waterfront property owners know about erosion control measures that could help stabilize their shorelines, said a press release.

Scott Hardaway and Donna Milligan of the Shoreline Studies Program at VIMS will provide a brief overview of the completed Mathews County Shoreline Management Study, said the release, and afterward those in attendance will be able to view the recommendations for a specific section of shoreline.

Most of the county’s shoreline was assessed for this project, and the recommended management strategies will provide waterfront property owners information to effectively stabilize their shoreline with site-specific best management practices.

For more information, call the Mathews County Department of Planning and Zoning at 725-4034.
