Two rezoning requests to come before commission in September

One sign that the economy may be improving is that “we are starting to see more site plans,” planning director Anne Ducey-Ortiz reported to the Gloucester County Planning Commission last Thursday night.
During a meeting in the colonial courthouse, Ducey-Ortiz said that her office had seen only a few rezoning requests during the past couple of years and now two public hearings on rezoning applications will be scheduled for the commission’s Sept. 6 meeting.
One request is to construct a four-unit apartment building on Belroi Road, Ducey-Ortiz said, while the other is to construct an urgent care medical facility on Route 17 south of Short Lane.
Commissioner Michael Winebarger asked how much property is zoned multi-family in Gloucester. There’s basically no undeveloped MF-1 zoned property at present, Ducey-Ortiz replied.
As for the urgent care facility, she said that if that use does not materialize, then the site—if rezoned to B-1 (general business)—could house an assortment of other types of businesses.
On a separate matter, planner Emily Gibson presented an update on the county’s Comprehensive Plan review that is still underway. The transportation section of the plan must include recent state code changes, she said, and final touches are being put on the natural resource chapter.
