The Mobjack Rowing Association’s summer competitive racing program pulled good results at the 132nd annual Independence Day Regatta held on Friday and Saturday in Philadelphia.

Mobjack’s 36-member team competed in 20 of the regatta’s 302 rowing events with seven boats advancing to semifinals and four earning the opportunity to row in the finals. Two Mobjack boats—the women’s under 19 four and the men’s under 16 four—won their respective races, taking home the champion’s wristwatch emblazoned with the Schuylkill Navy crest.

Starting off Friday’s racing were the men’s junior doubles teams of Adrian Phillips/Logan Hutson and Zack Payne/Andrew Merz and the women’s junior doubles teams of Hannah Beverage/Sarah Hood and Ashley Payne/Brianna Priode.

Z. Payne and Merz advanced to semifinals where they fought through a tough race, but missed advancing to finals by placing third when only the top two advanced to finals. Following the doubles was Matt Oliver in the men’s junior single, where he raced for the first time in a single shell, and while he did not advance, he hopes to improve with more practice.

Next in racing were two MRA women’s under 16 quads of Madison Haynes, Taylor Williams, Kendall Worland and Mackenzie Marbain, with Jamie Robins, Madison Lee, Tia Ilog and Bailey Hamilton in the second entry. Shortly thereafter, the under 19 junior women’s quad of Hannah Beverage, Brianna Priode, Sarah Hood, and Ashley Payne and the U19 men’s junior quad of Chris Smith, Bill Riley, Tucker Blackwell and Matt Oliver raced. Of all the quads, only Haynes, Williams, Worland and Marbain advanced from heats to finals. However, due to scheduling conflicts, they had to scratch their race for the quad final.
