Traffic flowing smoothly over Fox Mill Run Bridge, VDOT officials say

An altered traffic pattern, in which cars and trucks share one bridge at Fox Mill Run in Gloucester while VDOT crews repair the other, is working out well, state transportation officials said Wednesday.

Since traffic was shifted onto the northbound bridge toward the village last week, the flow of vehicles has moved smoothly through the Main Street corridor, said Kelly Hannon of the Virginia Department of Transportation. Temporary crossovers and low barriers have been erected so traffic can share one bridge.

Hannon said the schedule still calls for the project, which began last fall, to be completed by November. The main part of the project is to replace the southbound bridge. Now that all traffic has been shifted off that bridge, she said work can proceed unhindered on the old bridge.

VDOT will temporarily close the southernmost entrance to Main Street Center near the southbound bridge for one day beginning this morning, Hannon said, for replacement of a sewer line located near the Route 17 crossover.
