Three Constitutional officers ousted in Mathews

Board of supervisor and school board incumbents all retained their seats.
Sheriff-elect Mark Barrick squeezed by Howlett by an 85-vote margin, while soon-to-be Commonwealth’s Attorney Tom Bowen took almost 62 percent of the vote against Gill. Fifty-one percent of voters favored newly-elected commissioner of the revenue Les Hall, with Hunley holding on to 35 percent of the vote, and Doug Critchell, the third candidate in that race, taking 14 percent.
Barrick said he was grateful for all the support he received during the campaign, and felt good about the way both his and Sheriff Howlett’s campaigns were run.
"I felt we were clean and respectful toward one another," he said. "The citizens had a tough choice to make, and I’m glad I’m the one that prevailed."
