During its organizational meeting Jan. 2, the Gloucester County Board of Supervisors unanimously elected at-large supervisor Louise Theberge to chair the governing body for 2013. Board members also unanimously elected Abingdon district supervisor Robert "JJ" Orth to serve as vice chair.

Prior to the election of officers for 2013, outgoing chair Carter Borden said, "I just wanted to thank this BOS for supporting me during 2012. I enjoyed the year. It was a pleasant experience. You know everything you do in life doesn’t turn out to be a pleasant experience, but that was. I had fun and I thank you each and every one for your support and for bearing with me during 2012."

Petsworth district supervisor John Northstein nominated Theberge as chair and Gloucester Point district supervisor Chris Hutson nominated Orth as vice chair. There was no further discussion regarding the nominations before the votes were taken.

The following other appointments were made by resolution during the meeting: At-large supervisor Ashley Chriscoe was reappointed to the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission; Chriscoe was appointed to the Hampton Roads Transportation Planning Organization and Northstein will serve as an alternate; Northstein and Borden were appointed to the Middle Peninsula Planning District Commission; Orth was appointed to the Gloucester Library Board; Hutson to the Gloucester Planning Commission and Borden to the Social Services Advisory Board.
