Though it was more or less a matter of technicality, a majority of the Gloucester County Board of Supervisors chose Tuesday night to maintain their vote of Feb. 7, extending the completion date of the county’s next reassessment from Jan. 1, 2013 to Jan. 1, 2015.

The decision followed a public hearing in the colonial courthouse, where four residents spoke in favor of keeping the 2013 date.

The postponement of a county reassessment requires an amendment to county code, according to county attorney Ted Wilmot. To amend county code, an ordinance has to be passed. And in order for an ordinance to be passed, there has to be a public hearing.

York district supervisor Carter Borden, at-large supervisor Ashley Chriscoe and Ware district supervisor Andy James voted against extending the date, saying the county should stay on track with the Jan. 1, 2013 completion date for the next reassessment.

York district resident L.T. Wells provided supervisors with information on several different parcels of land in several different areas of the county—proof, he said, of flawed reassessment values.
