Supervisors to hold hearing Tuesday on reassessment date

The Gloucester County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing Tuesday night on whether to extend the county’s next reassessment effective date from Jan. 1, 2013 to Jan. 1, 2015. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in the colonial courthouse and public hearings will start at 8.

A majority of the board voted during a meeting Feb. 7 to extend the date of the next reassessment, but as the action requires a county code amendment, the matter must come to public hearing.

County administrator Brenda Garton said extending the date will allow the county to continue on the path of a fully-staffed, in-house reassessment using new software the county has purchased such as Pictometry, as well as new methodology.

Supervisors who were against extending the date said they felt Gloucester residents have been waiting long enough for a new assessment.
