Supervisors to hold hearing Tuesday on Court House plan

The public will have an opportunity to weigh in on a plan Tuesday that will help guide the county in decision making for future physical and economic growth in and around the Court House area.

The Gloucester County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing at 8 p.m. in the colonial courthouse on the Gloucester Court House Village Sub-Area Plan. The plan includes existing conditions data, as well as goals and land use recommendations based on the three major concepts: connectivity, preservation and economic vitality.

If adopted, the plan, which has been a collaborative effort between county staff and the Main Street Preservation Trust, will be an addendum to Gloucester’s Comprehensive Plan.

The plan focuses on specific, detailed physical improvements to the streetscape of Main Street in the center of the village. "It has been well received by the community and has served as a guideline and catalyst for several recent initiatives," said Gloucester planning director Anne Ducey-Ortiz.

There are a number of goals associated with the plan, including the creation of a comprehensive public/private plan that can be implemented. The plan recognizes and seeks the enhancement of the village feel, historic ambiance and quality of life found in the village; addresses traffic and parking issues; promotes continued implementation of building and streetscape improvements, and calls for the creation of a new brand/image for all village promotional materials.
