The Gloucester County Board of Supervisors is expected to discuss initial funding for the repurposing of T.C. Walker Elementary School during its meeting Tuesday, which will begin at 7 p.m. in the colonial courthouse.

The Gloucester County School Board voted in April to close the elementary program at the school. The measure was recommended by Ben Kiser, Gloucester’s Superintendent of Schools, who said the school closure was necessary to help the school division meet a $2 million budget shortfall for FY2013 while avoiding personnel layoffs.

The Gloucester County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution during its June 5 meeting requesting the school board move school administration offices from County Office Building 2 to T.C. Walker. School administration currently occupies 16,000 square feet of office space in Building 2.

Kiser said school officials will accept ideas from the public through July 6 on how it would like to see the T.C. Walker campus used now that it has closed the K-5 elementary program that operated there.

The board of supervisors will also hold a public hearing Tuesday night to consider authorizing the sale of County Office Building 3. The public hearing portion of the meeting will begin at 8 o’clock.

Building 3, which currently houses the planning and codes compliance departments, has been in disrepair for many years and county officials have been seeking a solution to get the staff housed in that building to new quarters.
