Supervisors to consider reassessment plans Tuesday

Gloucester board of supervisors will receive a report from county administrator Brenda Garton’s reassessment team when the board meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the colonial courthouse.

Supervisors are in the process of planning for the next countywide real estate reassessment and considering whether to do the work in-house or to contract with an outside firm. The 2010 assessment was conducted in-house, resulting in numerous complaints from residents.

The board will also hear recommendations from the county’s redistricting committee, and will entertain a request to schedule a public hearing on the redistricting process, according to assistant county administrator Georgette Hurley.

Tuesday night’s consent agenda includes a resolution authorizing the county to advertise a public hearing to consider a code amendment that would facilitate broadband availability in Gloucester.

Hurley said regular agenda items include a discussion/decision on a proposed ordinance change to allow for the use of irrigation meters for the county’s public utilities users; a discussion about a lease to use a temporary industrialized office for the public utilities department; a discussion/decision on a request for two no-wake signs to be placed in Timberneck Creek; a discussion/decision on a proposed code amendment on signs in the county, and discussion on the county’s fund balance policy.

Hurley said there is a closed meeting scheduled to discuss the potential acquisition of interest in real property.
