Supervisors approve change in Garton’s employment agreement
The Gloucester Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a resolution amending the employment agreement between the county and county administrator Brenda Garton, which includes a change in her salary structure, during its July 3 meeting in the colonial courthouse.
The adjustment calls for Garton’s salary to change from $125,000 per year to $135,000.
Garton received the same 2 percent increase as all county employees, according to county spokesperson Christi Lewis. She also received a 5.725 percent adjustment, as did all full-time employees, to offset an increase in Virginia Retirement System employee responsibility.
In the modified contract, Garton’s automobile allowance of $8,000 a year was eliminated as was $2,000 in deferred compensation.
However, effective July 1, Garton became entitled to mileage reimbursement for work-related travel at the county’s current mileage reimbursement rate. Use of her own vehicle was previously compensated in the $8,000 automobile allowance.
