Suggestions sought for new water access points

The National Park Service, the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation and the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries are inviting Virginia residents to offer suggestions for the location of needed boat ramps, fishing piers, scenic overlooks and other access points to Virginia’s Chesapeake Bay.

NPS has developed a web-based tool so the public can share their ideas on an interactive map. The site will be available through July 20. This online tool allows the public an easy way to share suggestions with NPS and state agency staff, said a press release.

To see the map and enter suggestions, visit www.baygateways.net and click on Public Access Suggestions Map.

The Virginia Outdoors Plan, the state’s outdoor recreation and land conservation planning guide, has identified access to waterways as Virginians’ top outdoor recreational priority for more than two decades, said the release.

The information gathered will help NPS and partnering agencies create a "Chesapeake Bay Region Public Access Plan."
