Storms cause power outages

Strong thunderstorms rolled through the Middle Peninsula—and many other parts of Virginia—last Thursday night, causing many power outages.

Dominion Virginia Power spokesman Dan Genest said about 220,000 customers throughout the state lost electricity during the storm, with approximately 100,000 of them being in Northern Virginia.

Locally, approximately 2,000 customers in the Gloucester region experienced outrages of varying lengths from the storm.

The Gloucester region saw 60 separate work locations due to the storm, Genest said, with all power restored here by Friday night.

Also, the Peninsula, especially James City County and the cities of Hampton and Newport News, experienced numerous outages, Genest said.

Virginia Dominion Power could not provide information about specific Gloucester area outages because a local supervisor was out of the office, Genest said.
