The 33rd annual Yorktown Fourth of July Fireworks Celebration will be held next Wednesday night, beginning at 9:15. The fireworks will be launched from a barge anchored in the York River and will be visible from the Gloucester Point and Yorktown beach areas.

Visitors to the Gloucester Point Beach Park will be able to enjoy entertainment and concessions before and during the fireworks, according to Gloucester’s Parks, Recreation and Tourism department.

The concession stand at the park will open at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Menu items will include hot dogs, soft serve ice cream, snow cones, sodas and chips.

Music will be provided throughout the day, including the Hampton Roads-based band, Planet Full of Blues, which will be on stage from 6-9 p.m.

A limited number of handicapped parking spaces are available at the beach, but overflow parking will be permitted for the public at designated lots on the Virginia Institute of Marine Science campus.

When the beach lot is full, access to the immediate area will be restricted to drop-off traffic and boaters only. After fireworks are over, Greate Road will become one way headed towards Lafayette Heights to allow for a quicker exit from Gloucester Point Beach. No traffic will be allowed toward the beach area at that time.
