Sheriff’s office investigating Rt. 17 burglaries
The Gloucester Sheriff’s Office is investigating three burglaries that occurred at businesses just off Route 17 Monday night or early Tuesday morning, according to GSO Sgt. Diane Smith.
The burglaries occurred at Sherwin-Williams and Amerigas in the 7200 block of Route 17 and Supercuts in the 6500 block of Market Drive. Smith said forced entry was made through a side door at Sherwin-Williams and through the front door at the other two businesses. In each instance, an undisclosed amount of cash was taken.
Smith said it is not known whether these burglaries are related to a recent string of burglaries at businesses along Route 17 in York County.
Between July 16 and 19, nine York County businesses along Route 17, stretching from the 1200 to the 8000 block, were burglarized. They included Bead Nail and Hair, China Ocean, Great Atlantic Spas, Adams Shoe Store, Becky’s Hallmark, Supercuts, Yorktowne Cleaners, Sherwin-Williams and Dragon China, according to Lt. Dennis Ivey of the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office.
Ivey said there was also an attempted burglary at the Starbucks in the 4400 block of Route 17 in York, but no entry was made. He said in each of the other burglaries, glass was broken out of the front door of the business or the front door was pried open to gain entry. An undisclosed amount of cash was also taken in these burglaries.
Anyone with information regarding the burglaries is asked to call 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
