Several local charities fare well during Amazing Raise
Held on Wednesday and Thursday, the fundraiser brought in $1.5 million for 467 nonprofits from Richmond to the Middle Peninsula and Northern Neck.
To be eligible for a top prize, an organization had to bring in the most individual donations of $50 or more. Multiple donations by one individual did not count. However, all donations in any amount were accepted and added to the total raised.
Bonus prizes amounting to a total of $154,000 were awarded for contests that ran during the fundraiser, which could be won with donations of $25 or more.
Urban organizations generally raised the most money, had the most donors and won the most prizes. However, three local organizations ran with the big groups.
The Bay School Community Arts Center in Mathews brought in 107 eligible individual donations out of 193 total gifts received. The school raised $14,950 and won a bonus of $1,000 for having the most individual donations during the lunch break on Thursday.
