Romney announces running mate selection at Norfolk event

The rally for Romney was held on the rear patio of Nauticus, with the U.S.S. Wisconsin docked alongside, towering in the background.
Romney’s appearance was heralded by Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell, Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling, and Senate candidate and former Virginia Gov. George Allen.
Bolling called this year’s election a “defining moment” and said that Romney is “the right person with the right experience at the right time to get America on the right track.”
Allen, stumping for his own campaign, brought a somber mood to the crowd as he talked about disappointing jobs reports, high unemployment, young people who can’t find jobs, trillion dollar deficits, and uncertainty about the future of America’s children. But the mood changed as he said that, if elected, he will keep America’s promises to veterans and that, on his first day in office, he’ll “unleash American energy resources from our coal fields to our coasts” by introducing a bill to allow drilling off the coast of Virginia. He said that 2012 is “our generation’s rendezvous with destiny” and that Virginia would be the key to the election and to leadership in the U.S. Senate.
